History
Rolesville began as a humble farming community in the early 1800s, and was named after local landowner and merchant, William H. Roles, who is responsible for drawing the town’s map for its incorporation in 1837. This quaint town is the second-oldest municipality in Wake County, after Raleigh, which was chartered in 1794. At Roseville’s inception, it was fenced along its boundaries to keep animals in, but the fences were removed in 1941 when U.S. Highway 401 was paved. However, you can still see two of the four original cornerstones of the town limits today.
