History
In 1905, two local businessmen had the foresight to see the benefits of the upcoming installation of the Raleigh and Southern Pamlico Railroad, so they purchased 275 acres in the area now known as Zebulon. They then divided the acreage into lots and put the parcels up for sale. In 1907, the community that evolved along the railroad was named Zebulon, honoring popular Civil War North Carolina Governor, Zebulon Baird Vance.
The railroad and the many businesses in town, such as banks, tobacco warehouses, professional services, a cotton mill, and retail shops, made Zebulon a significant trade center. By the 1920s, Zebulon had reached a population of 1,000 people.
Over the decades, Zebulon remained quaint and quiet, until the development of the Research Triangle Park, which initiated population growth as people moved to the area to work.
